Nilsonian Timely – 2024, issue 6

Hear ye, hear ye!

Happy holidays everyone! As we move into the darkest time of the year, hopefully with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and a book of M.R. James’ ghost stories by our side, or whatever is your personal preference, I would like to give some updates as to where I am in my work at the moment. So follow along, and then come hang out with me in the comments section!

The podcasting world is alive and well, I’m glad to inform you! Both I is for Investigate and Lägerelden are plodding along nicely, with regular updates.

If we pop over to the UK to begin with, I is for Investigate has just released episode 7 of season 2, a.k.a. Dagon, with the alluring and confusing title Where and When Are We?.
For a look behind the scenes, I’ve been working closely with the series writer, Michelle Perry-Brooker, in a sort of story editor capacity, giving a few inputs on where I think things were good, and where (and sometimes how) they could improve. Make no mistake, the text is hers, I’ve just lent whatever knowledge I might have to help her on the right path to get as strong a series ending out as possible. I truly hope you’ll like it! I know the series will take a short break for the holiday season, but will be back early next year for a thrilling conclusion.
I’ve also delivered my recordings for the series finale, so unless some last minute changes need to be made, it’s now up to series producer Neil Brooker to pull this boat ashore.
You can find the full series on Spotify and several other platforms of your choosing.

Turning our heads to Sweden, I’m pleased to say that since the Halloween special of Lägerelden I mentioned in my last update (if you haven’t listened to that one yet, I urge  you to go back and do so – it’s really good!), a lot more episodes have been released, two of which I’m reading a story in.

First up is episode 39. Spökhistorier #4 (Ghost stories #4), in which I guide you along a mysterious police investigation of a surprising death in the heart of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour! Are we simply dealing with another burnt out star, or is there a deeper, more sinister story to uncover underneath it all?

But I did say I was in two episodes of Lägerelden, didn’t I?
I did, and the second one is placed in a new special section of the podcast called Adventsmys med Eva Lundegård (Advent coziness with Eva Lundegård), in which Eva Lundegård is hosting an episode each advent up to Christmas with a special selection of creepy tales and true crime horror.

The story I read shows up in the second of these episodes, and the story’s title is simply Adventskalendern (The Advent Calendar). In a modern day take on a Jamesian theme, a young boy is terrified about opening his advent calendar, horrified at what he might find behind the carton doors and windows. Is there truly a shadowy, foreboding character moving closer to him in each one, and what will happen when he reaches the end..? Listen on, and find out!

In the world of moving pictures, there has also been some development.

First and foremost, principal photography of the new short film from writer/director Tobias Enevoldsen has wrapped, and is being edited as we speak. Or write. Or however you choose to take this in.
I’m happy to announce the title of the film, En Dronning i Gult (A Queen in Yellow), and given this, you are absolutely right in thinking that it is inspired by the writings of Robert W. Chambers, and more specifically, his short story The Repairer of Reputations.

It is not a straight adaptation of the text. For one thing, it’s been moved to a modern day setting, but I still won’t give too much away.
I guess I could mention that I’m playing Mr. Wilde, but now you won’t get anything more out of me!

Secondly, I have a small part as a portrait painter in Tidsrejsen 2 (The Time Travel 2), the currently running Christmas calendar series by the Danish national TV channel, DR.
You can find me in episode 10, unless it’s somehow geoblocked. As I live in Denmark, I can’t say how it works outside of the country.
Anyway, here’s the link for the show!

  1. Hi Tobias! May I just add that you’re an excellent editor and motivator? Your input was very important to me to keep me going. It was a long writing assignment, and my enthusiasm was lagging, but you put me back on track. I’m greatly in your debt.
